SZMATOM

The work is a poignant exploration of the invisible labor embedded within domestic spaces—a labor historically carried on the shoulders of women, passed down silently from generation to generation. Crafted from kitchen towels, an object of intimate familiarity and quiet service, this artwork becomes both archive and artifact. Each fold, stain, and stitch holds traces of daily rituals: acts of care, routine, endurance, and often, unspoken sorrow. Assembled from towels used by women of the same family, it becomes a layered palimpsest of memory, an embodied testament to inherited roles and the quiet transmission of gendered expectations.

By elevating the domestic textile to a sculptural form, the piece resists erasure. It demands attention to what has long been dismissed: the emotional labor, generational resilience, and unresolved injustices woven into the fabric of home. This work invites viewers to reflect on the unseen infrastructures of care, and to reframe the domestic space not as peripheral, but as central to our collective histories.
